The Experience

A Retreat Like No Other

Patchwork Promotions is the official Quiltworx University for Europe, led by Ada Honders β€” European Quiltworx Coordinator. Ada organises retreats in the south of the Netherlands where quilters of all levels gather to work on beautiful Quiltworx foundation paper piecing designs.

Whether you are coming purely for the joy of quilting β€” finally finishing those ambitious patterns in a relaxed, inspiring setting with great company β€” or you are pursuing official Quiltworx certification, you will find a warm welcome and expert guidance here.

Retreats are open to quilters from all over the world. Each participant receives personalised attention and, if desired, a custom fabric kit assembled specifically for their chosen project β€” complete with expert colour advice and a digital preview before anything is cut.

Would you like to start something fresh but find it hard to choose? Ada is happy to help you beforehand in selecting a pattern that perfectly matches your level and wishes.

Certification

Become a Certified Quiltworx Instructor

Through Patchwork Promotions retreats, European quilters can pursue official Quiltworx certification β€” recognised across Europe and listed on Quiltworx.com. Ada Honders manages the entire European certification programme as the official regional coordinator.

Certification is not required to join a retreat β€” many participants come purely for the love of quilting. But if you want to teach or sell Quiltworx designs professionally, Ada’s retreats are the only way to get certified in Europe. The January and February 2027 retreats both include the Technique of the Month programme and are open for certification.

  1. 01

    Prepare at Home

Complete at least two Quiltworx quilts (fully quilted, bound and labelled, from different technique categories). Have an active Facebook account, a website or webshop, and a published class programme ready.

  2. 02

    Attend a Retreat with Ada

Join a 5+ day certification retreat. During the retreat you complete the current Technique of the Month quilt (Queen size, fully quilted, bound and labelled) and demonstrate your ability to guide a group.

  3. 03

    Receive Your Certification

Once all requirements are met, you are officially listed as a Quiltworx Certified Instructor or Certified Shop on Quiltworx.com for Europe.

  4. 04

    Stay Certified

Return every two years to complete the new Technique of the Month quilt with Ada. Maintain your Quiltster account, teach a minimum of 12 days per year, and pay the annual certification fee.

Certified Instructor

A Quiltworx Certified Instructor (CI) is trained and authorised to teach Quiltworx foundation paper piecing patterns independently β€” at quilt shops, shows, guilds and your own workshops. Ideal for individual quilters building a professional teaching career.

CI Pathway

Certified Shop

A Quiltworx Certified Shop (CS) is a retail business authorised to sell and teach Quiltworx products. Ideal for quilt shop owners who want to deepen their Quiltworx offering and support customers with expert knowledge.

CS Pathway

Benefits of Certification

  • Wholesale purchasing privileges
  • Listed on Quiltworx.com as a European CI or CS
  • Up to 8 free Quiltworx patterns per year
  • 25% discount on digitised quilting designs
  • Access to Quiltworx Slack communications channel
  • Ability to teach and sell the Technique of the Month programme

Certification is available at the January and February 2027 flagship retreats. Contact Ada to discuss the prerequisites and plan your path.
